BOB EVANS
Bob is one of Canada's best kept finger
style guitar secrets. Oh sure, he had an American restaurant
chain named after him. But with the 1999 release of his CD
Caffeinated Coffee and the fact that he placed first in the
National Finger Style Guitar Championship at the 2003 Walnut Valley
Festival in Winfield, Kansas, the musical part of the secret is
finally becoming not such a secret any more.
Bob's first musical awakenings happened
as a teenager as an audience member at the 1st Regina Folk Festival
in 1969. It wasn't very long after that event that his prodigous
abilities became known. He released an LP recording in 1975
simply titled Bob Evans which just featured himself on guitar,
banjo and vocals. There was another solo "little record",
a 7" extended play, released in 1979 called Horizontal which
by any guitar standards was, and still is, a collectible landmark
in the ragtime guitar genre. There are other recordings he
had a part in but you can check that out at his own web site with
the web link below. In person, Bob's flawless flying fingers
are matched only with his off the wall wit and wisdom.
Bob's many musical talents have recently
extended to host of Regina's community radio station CJTR program
called Six Strings and a Million Possibilities. So
what kind of guitar music does a master guitar player like Bob choose
for a radio show? Just about anything you can think of, but
mostly extraordinary pieces by astounding musicians. Bob has
always been willing to share his musical gifts and knowledge, but
now he has a larger audience for it.
Check out Bob's website. He
has lots of things in the guitar world to show you.
